Colorful bohemian stockings are so in this Christmas! We’ve seen cute designs with lots of texture: pom poms, tassels, fringe, and more! Some of these can be pretty pricey though, and we haven’t been able to find the perfect color combination for our homes. So instead of buying finished stockings this year, we decided to make our own! Here is one from Anthropology that inspired pieces of our design:
What You’ll Need
- Knitted plain stockings
- Yarn in the colors of your choice
- Trim (fringe, pom poms, tassels, etc.)
- Hot glue gun/hot glue sticks
- Scissors
- Pom Pom Maker (optional)

How to Make Boho Christmas Stockings
- Lay out your trim and decide what pattern/placement you’d like best. We concentrated the trim around the cuff of the stocking, placing some directly on the cuff and some tucked underneath the cuff. If you’re creating multiple stockings, think about switching the order of trims up to make each one unique! Once you’ve decided on placement, use the hot glue to affix the trim all the way around your stocking.
- Create the mini pom pom detail for the body of your stocking. Get creative! There’s no right or wrong way to do this – we used a variety of yarns to create various shapes/sizes of pom poms & loops. We even took some of the left over trim and wrapped it around itself to create balls of mini pom poms! The more varied the detail the more interesting the stocking will be!
- Make 2-3 large tassels/pom poms for each stocking and tie them to the stocking hanger. You can use a pom pom maker or a piece of cardboard to create these.
